Hypnosis has long been rumored to have powerful mind-altering properties which can help to treat a range of psychological conditions and lifestyle habits. Conjuring images of elaborate stage shows with unsuspecting ordinary people making a fool of themselves, hypnotism has been seen as a joke, or entertainment for decades. Although conventional medicine may still be a little skeptical as to the effectiveness of alternative treatments like hypnosis, there are hundreds of thousands of success stories around the world in favor of these alternative methods. By conducting the mind of the patient (or victim?) in a state of total relaxation, the hypnotist can change the pattern of thought, for example to turn a patient off smoking cigarettes. It is thought that whilst the mind is reduced to this placid, almost semi-conscious state, the hypnotist can access the inner most anxieties and feelings of the patient to make a permanent change to their mental well-being.

When redoing my kitchen I wanted to add a chair rail border midway on one wall. I wanted something different, not your usual wood rail. So I looked at the different raised stencils thinking that they might make a nice rail and thought about using flat painted borders but decided that they were not the effect I wanted.
It then came to mind to do something very different.
I created a faux solid stone rough rail 2” wide by a little less than ¼” thick.
I used a water based patching plaster compound (Spackling) to create this effect.

One of the most common problems I see in homes is paneling. Faux wooden paneling found its heyday in the sixties and seventies, and has become the nightmare of the modern decorator.
In those days, wooden paneling was often put up in lieu of drywall because it was easier and cheaper. The problem with paneling is that it’s dark, dull, outdated, and difficult to replace.
Not everyone has the money or energy to take on the project of tearing out walls of old paneling and replacing them with drywall. It can be a financial and mental drain.
